Application of six-degree-of-freedom platform in amusement facilities

An object has six degrees of freedom in space, namely the freedom of movement along the three rectangular coordinate axes x, y, and z and the freedom of rotation around the three rectangular coordinate axes x, y, and z. Three of the six degrees of freedom are controlled by translation. Translation is the movement of an object in 3D space along the Z axis (up and down), X axis (left and right), and Y axis (front and back). Linear translational freedom is controlled by defining an origin or a reference frame, which should be perpendicular to each other. Three of the six degrees of freedom are controlled by rotation. Rotating an object in 3D space along the U axis (pitch), V axis (roll), and W axis (yaw), similar to the three linear translational degrees of freedom, the rotational degrees of freedom will be perpendicular to each other.

With the help of the telescopic movement of the six actuators, the upper platform can complete the movement of six degrees of freedom (X, Y, Z, α, β, γ) in space, so as to simulate various spatial motion postures. The six-degree-of-freedom platform is widely used in error compensation devices, industrial manipulators, space docking technology, flight simulation cockpits, earthquake simulation experience platforms and other heavy load and high acceleration applications.

There are three types of six-degree-of-freedom platform drive modes: pneumatic platform, hydraulic platform, and electric platform.

1. Pneumatic platform

The key components are pneumatic cylinders, pneumatic solenoid valves and air compressors. It has simple structure, moderate power consumption, low price, no pollution, fast action response speed, reliable operation, easy maintenance, long life, and wide temperature range. The disadvantages are low power, high noise, uneven platform running speed, etc.

2. Hydraulic platform

The key components are hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic solenoid valve (can be divided into two categories: switch valve and proportional valve) and hydraulic pump station. The power is the largest among the three and is suitable for high load conditions. Its price is medium, the action is relatively gentle compared to the pneumatic platform, and the noise is low.

3. Electric platform

The key components are electric cylinder, reducer, servo motor, servo motor driver, motion control card, etc., generally with three degrees of freedom and six degrees of freedom. The power is second only to the hydraulic platform. It has fast response speed, high sensitivity, precise control, simple structure, high reliability, low noise, clean and hygienic, and easy maintenance. The only disadvantage is that the control circuit is complex and the cost is high.

The six-degree-of-freedom platform independently developed by Boren Culture Technology has also been widely used in many high-end cultural and tourism equipment projects of the company as the main moving parts. The Boren six-degree-of-freedom motion platform is formed by connecting six sets of servo electric cylinders of the same specifications in parallel. As shown in the figure, the servo electric cylinder is equipped with an upper limit sensor and a lower limit sensor within its travel range. When the servo inductive cylinder travel exceeds the set effective travel, the upper/lower limit sensor signal is triggered, and the servo electric cylinder will stop running to avoid limit impact. In addition, the servo electric cylinder drive motor contains an absolute encoder to ensure real-time detection and recording of the actual speed, travel, and position of the servo electric cylinder, thereby ensuring that the dynamic platform can complete various actions in real time and accurately according to the scene and film content. The head and tail of the servo electric cylinder are equipped with Hook hinges, of which the upper Hook hinge is connected to the upper platform by bolts, and the lower Hook hinge is connected and fixed to the ground or foundation surface by bolts.
